Howard and Karen Bosson   The PURDEY rebuild

To those of you who are familiar with Purdey, the low, white, wide and fast Dax Speedster, she's had a face lift. Well, a little bit more than cosmetics, more like a re-build.

It had been our unfortunate experience in the past, to suffer at the hands of very inscrutable characters that either ripped us off or delivered very shoddy workmanship with other cars.

So we were very apprehensive about trusting our baby into the hands of anyone. We'd spotted an advert in VolksWorld for the V DUB BODYSHOP which included Speedsters and remembering the blue Legend Speedster they'd built and which we'd seen.

We decided to visit them to find out if they would be able to undertake the work we wanted. The visit coincided with Stoneleigh 2000 and a wedding but being true troopers we got them all in. Anyway, we were suitably impressed with the reception from David Lowe and his compatriot Damian Mason. They both gave us great confidence with their approach to the task and their knowledge of the Speedster.

I must point out that their primary business is renovating VW's and several of their projects have appeared in VolksWorld and VW Motoring. There were a couple in the workshop and a completed one outside. Judging by the detail and finish on these, we were impressed. Things were looking promising but we had to wait a week for the estimate. Once this had arrived we had a pleasant surprise as the cost was OK and within our budget.
We then took the plunge and agreed dates for the delivery and the completion. Then it was time to sit back and wait.

December 2nd arrived all to soon and we motored down to Audlem to leave Purdey in their hands. We were to discover within a couple of weeks that they were very capable hands. E-mails and phone calls with progress updates were forthcoming, without prompting I might add and we planned visits to see how things were going on. We were never disappointed on any of the visits, as the standards the lad's work to are very high.

We did manage to cause them concern as we set them the task of finding the whitest white paint they could. David and Damian came up trumps with what can only be described as the purest white we've seen. They also came up with some ideas to improve the way Purdey looked. All of which were incorporated into Purdey Mark Two.

The next section details the work that the V DUB BODYSHOP did.
