Howard and Karen Bosson

The PURDEY story continues

Since we acquired Purdey we've had the interior completely re trimmed in leather, apart from the carpets of course. This included a very clever fabrication of the rear seat area as it did not exist and had to be made from scratch.

The hood has been extended at the sides to fit the side screens. This is because it's a non standard, very low, hood frame. There has been a re-spray in the original white and the badges and chrome bits have all been replaced.

The electrics and brakes have all been replaced or overhauled as they wore out as have the rear tyres. The old 1500cc engine has been replaced with an 1835cc fully balanced unit. It runs a mild Engle 110 cam, worked heads, Bolt up rockers and swivel feet tappets.

The carb. is a single 32/36 Webber fed by a Pierberg electric fuel pump and the sparks come via a Bosch 009 distributor. The engine has been dressed with after market chrome tinware and the exhaust is a modified Monza 4 tip.

We are using unleaded fuel with no additives and she runs just fine. The gearbox is a Carter unit with the long 4th gear giving us the ability of cruising the motorways at 70mph and only 3200prm on the rev counter. That is, when we have to use the motorways. The next project for Purdey is a complete body rework and respray as the mileage we have put on her is beginning to take its toll. This will involve new or reworked doors.

All the blemishes and ill fitting panels sorted or removed and potentially a new colour but one that is close to white and that will show off all Purdey's curves to perfection. Further improvements to Purdey will include a new, made to measure, hood and maybe a set of twin carbs. Also at sometime in the future there may be some new chromed and dished wheels, if we can find some we like.
