Dave and Sandra Bray . . dgmb@xtra.co.nz Latest update June 2001 Recent weekend trip - Lake "Ferry" (Ferry Porsche - get it?)
Club member Dave Bray, now retired, was the Credit Card Manager for The Bank of New Zealand in Wellington. He saw and test drove a Chesil Speedster while visiting relatives in Britain over the Christmas period in 1994 but simple economics dictated that his eventual choice should be sourced from the West Coast of America. He has now completed his car, based on a body supplied by Vintage Speedsters of California. Dave's wife Sandra, chose the paintwork colour and Dave managed to Find a completely rust-free floor pan from a donor VW Beetle. This was professionally shortened to the correct length but Dave completed most of the other tasks himself.
Both Dave and Sandra keep in regular touch with other club members by contributing to the magazine and through chatty phone calls half-way round the world. They also place orders for items of club clothing to be sent out to them, so helping them to keep in the mood even when they are not actually speeding. The car picked up first place at the 1997 Volkswagen Nationals at New Plymouth NZ over last Easter. A copy of the windscreen notice used at this show is reproduced below. Note the great registration number!
The specification supplied by Dave for his Speedster's engine is as follows:
