April 2010 - A word of Warning! After returning from a recent afternoon trip out in my Tygan 356 Speedster, I noticed a smell of petrol from the car on tickover. On lifting the hood I could see the right hand Weber was leaking petrol from the fuel line connection. Not wanting to risk any fire, I switched off the engine and pushed a rag under the leak whilst finding the correct size Phillips to tighten the loose clip. Reaching in, my metal strap Seiko wrist watch touched the exposed HT lead to the alternator and also the engine block. The result was a direct short through my watch case and strap generating enough immediate heat to weld the metal links of the strap solid and burn my wrist down to the bone in two seconds. A simple plastic cover over the lead connection or removing my watch would have saved me a great deal of pain and discomfort the last few weeks. On a brighter note, we are taking the car to Provence this September for a week long "Clover Leaf Rally" in the region. I will add some photos on my return. Finally has anyone had experience of fitting heater blowers to increase the warm air into the car, Barneys Imports, of Tucson Arizona produce a kit but I would like some thoughts as to how effective these are.
Here are some recent shots of the car with some original build shots below |
