 David and Toni Home

David Home hails from the brewing town of Burton-on-Trent and he is a maintenance team member with Toyota GB. He has used his engineering background to produce a Marlin Roadster and a Rickmar Ranger, as well as retore a couple of motorcycles.

In February '93 he took delivery of a new rolling chassis and de-luxe bodyshell kit from Chesil Speedsters - previous experience demonstrating that scrapyard-sourced parts lead to major griefs, so his Speedster would sport all new components. An Arnie Levics-built 1835cc engine is now mated to a gearbox recently purchased from Carter'e Gearbox Shop in the USA. This unit gives a much more suitable set of ratios than his original stock 1300 Beetle gearbox. No suspension modifications were were fitted - the standard Beetle torsion bar front end and rear swing axle were retained.

The car is finished in silver and was featured prominently in a Sunday Telegraph Motoring Supplement article on the club and it has won awards fro its appearance including 'first in class' and 'best engine' at a recent Volkswagen show.

David is a great supporter of club events and travels all over the country to attend and act as organiser of the club stand at several shows. He contributes a regular column on technical matters for the magazine. Fortunately, his wife, Toni, shares his enthusiasm for the Speedster.
