Mark Manning - 550 Spyder

My 550 has a type 4 2.4ltr engine, twin Webers. Porsche silver paintwork (ref 936) , black leather seats, black carpeting, soft top and tonneau.

It has Porsche 5 stud steel wheels. 5.5" Stainless exhaust, twin oil coolers, horizontally mounted 911 fan system, Porsche 5 speed gearbox, aluminium tank, full screen, RHD, Handmade catches, torsion bar access covers copied from originals, period guages Removable headrest fairing, brake cooling vents, european spec Hella headlamps.

This is one of only a handful of factory built cars. Martin and Walker Ltd manufacture two models, both hand built mid engined replicas of two of Porsches most famous Le Mans winning racing cars, the 550 Spyder and the 904 GTS.

Martin and Walker Ltd manufacture their TECHNIC brand sportscars at their workshops on Thruxton race circuit. They produce around half a dozen cars each year almost all for export. In 2000 one of their cars (a 904 GTS) competed in the historic Carrera Panamericana. The 550 was developed by TECHNIC for use on the track while still being suitable for the road.

It features an immensely strong purpose designed chassis and suspension system visually similar to the original 1950's racing chassis but greatly superior in handling and strength.

GKX 241 was commissioned in March 1998 and delivered in May 1999. It is the highest specification turnkey TECHNIC 550 constructed to date and features some extra detailng specified by the owner (original period catches, gauges, body styling etc.).

All components were new when the car was manufactured except the crank case and gear box housing which were fully tested and certified. All moving parts were new so the type 4 engine and gear box were fully rebuilt to the highest level.

The type 4 2.4 litre flat four 'boxer' engine, delivers approx 155 bhp. With the vehicle weighing approximately 670 kgs this equates to about 230 bhp per tonne!. It has twin downdraught Weber 44s, lightened flywheel, gas flowed heads, high performance camshaft, forged pistons, very efficient cooling system with twin oil coolers and horizontally mounted fan. Stainless steel exhaust system. Porsche 5 speed transmission.

Soft top and tonneau can be stored under the front bonnet next to the lightweight aluminium fuel tank.
I bought the car from Dominik Kench after seeing it on this website.
