Porsche Picnic in the Park,
30th September 2007 Another new event on the calendar for the Club - a meeting of Porsches and VeeDubs in Wellington Country Park, near Basingstoke. Club members tuned out in good numbers again and we were delighted to be visited by webmaster John Mercer, who is in the market for a new car, having sold his unfinished Speedster project some little time ago. The Club stand attracted the usual attention and the Master of Ceremonies interviewed Len Raynsford and myself at some length, which enabled us to tell the entire gathering, via the PA system, about the merits of the replica Speedsters and Spyders and the activities of the Club. This was an event for Porsche lovers to drool over, as the woodland glade was absolutely packed with 911s, 944s, 928s, 968s 914s, 356s and every derivation thereof. There were many superb examples of early 1970s 911s and 912s and three 911 Speedsters, of which only 42 were ever made. These cars, red, white and silver, were conveniently parked between our own Speedster/Spyder Club stand and the massive array of 1980s 3.2 Carreras. Considering the time of year, we were again fortunate with the weather and hoods remained down throughout the day. As usual, Club members were plentifully supplied with food and drink from the many vendors on site and were also able to pick up some useful items from the dealers and autojumble stands to make their cars just that little bit more original or well-equipped! This is another event that should become a fixture in future years. Last year we added the Hampshire Pageant, next year there is the Classic Le Mans, so there is no shortage of opportunities for Club members to enjoy getting together and showing off their cars. Tony
