Volksworld 2007
Report from Tony Tucker

Report on Volksworld Show, Sandown Park, 24th March 2007

As in recent years, a number of club members attended the biggest annual aircooled show around and the air was certainly cool this year (in fact, a sharp wind meant that it was ****** freezing!).

Len Raynsford, Leslie Bennett and Nigel Cousins (in Nigel's car), Peter Fenn, Rob Jones, Kevin Pearl, myself and new members Terry Watson and Dick Bridgewood all toured the many stands together, admiring the latest examples of the ingenuity of the owners of Beetles and every possible derivative thereof.  There were also excellent demonstrations of engine-builds and pinstriping techniques, as well as the host of dealers from all over the UK and the continent selling their wares.  Unfortunately, by leaving the show in the mid-afternoon, by which time my mobile battery had run down, we missed meeting another new member, Mike Loveluck, so we'll hope to catch up with him at a future event.

Between us, we had countless stories to tell about new cars Rob's Intermeccanica engine had been shipped from North America the day before, Leslie was still on a "high" about his repaired Chesil, Len enthused about his state-of-the-art garage, Terry is soon to be the proud owner of a Beck Speedster, Kevin is still "progressing" his Pilgrim and Dick is the owner of one of the last Chesils to come out of the "old" company!

As if this gathering was not enough Speedster representation at a VW show, we were also astonished to meet up with a man we had not seen for some time, namely Gary of Speedster Clinic fame (formerly in Stratford on Avon, then in Redditch and now, he tells me, round the corner from the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham perhaps I'll look him up when I go up there shortly to see Bob Dylan at the NIA).

We all seem to be booked for the Stoneleigh Park bash, not to mention Castle Combe, so the turnout at those events promises to beat even that of previous years.
